Sadly, the suspension bridge at Loch Pattack, affectionately known by regular walkers as the “shoogly” bridge, has been removed as part of the Ardverikie Estate Pattack Hydro Project. A new variable weir on the downstream river outlet of Loch Pattack has been put in place and will enable level of Loch Pattack to be raised. The deck walkway on the suspension footbridge would have been well and truly submerged due to the higher loch-level, and it had to go. Although no match for a photo opportunity, the much wider sturdy new bridge will be less of a challenge for cyclists with panniers and walkers carrying large rucksacks. Estate vehicles and mountain rescue vehicles no longer have to cross the ford for access to Culra.
