Lodge Features & Layout

An-Tochailt Lodge lies on the northern shore of beautiful Loch Ericht, and it nestles beneath the Fara, Scotland’s seventh-highest Corbett. Access to the main entrance of the lodge is through a gated courtyard, which has car parking space, kennels, and a large garage. There are lawns on the lochside of the lodge with garden furniture provided for guest use.

The generously sized hallway leads into the comfortably furnished sitting room, which is a perfect place to relax and to enjoy the outstanding views. The drawing-room, sitting room, and dining room can be opened up with sliding doors to make one large open plan space if required.

The stylish drawing room has comfortable seating, arranged around the large open fire, and there is a TV with a DVD player for guests to use. French windows open up to the lochside lawns, where there are uninterrupted views of spectacular Loch Ericht and the surrounding countryside.

The dining room is a bright and airy space, with a dining table, which can accommodate eight people around it comfortably in front of an open fire. There is a useful serving hatch through from the kitchen next door.

The well-equipped country-style kitchen has a double range cooker with a gas hob, fridge freezer, a microwave, and a useful serving hatch that opens up through to the dining room next door. The utility room houses the additional freezer, a washing machine, and a dryer.

Customer Testimonials

“An Tochailt has become our home from home. It is a beautiful house — a mini castle paradise! Both in winter, when its warmth, coziness and roaring log fires offer shelter from the snow and gales, or in summer, when the endless days allow for glorious and breathtaking views down Loch Ericht, it is a simply magical spot. The furnishings are comfortable, the towels and linens excellent quality, the unlimited hot water and huge bathtubs much needed after a day’s fishing or walking. The dining room is magnificent and a perfect place to enjoy eating our daily catch or Christmas feast! (The kitchen is disproportionately small for the size of the house, but it suits the 3 of us perfectly, although it might be snug for larger groups.). With a drying room/boot room and lovely scullery, the house is very well equipped for those who enjoy outdoor living. And there are books, games, dvds and the all-important Wi-fi for those who prefer to stay at home. The house is a haven of tranquility and seclusion, yet the excellent, friendly and efficient team on the Ben Alder Estate are just a phone call away. We always hate to leave and we look forward to each return visit.”

How To Get There

Take the Dalwhinnie exit off of the A9 and follow the road to the petrol station. Take the track located next to the petrol station and continue past the white houses on the left to the railway barrier under the railway arch. On reaching the barrier, call the Estate security (07827 330 383) for the code. Turn immediately right through the stone gate posts, follow the track up a short steep hill, then bear left. Continue to the first turreted building with electric gates in an archway. Just before the gates, there is a post with a keypad. Press the security button for access. Carry on for half a mile to An-Tochailt Lodge which will be on your left.

It is necessary to have the use of a vehicle during your stay but if any of your party wishes to arrive by train there is a station at Dalwhinnie. The overnight sleeper service from London stops at Dalwhinnie as do some of the day trains. Nearby Kingussie Station offers more choice of train times.
