An Tochailt Lodge

An Tochailt Lodge is a little romantic castle with a superb lochside location ideal for winter and summer self-catering holidays in Scotland. Set in the heart of the Scottish Highlands with views in all directions, the Lodge offers something for everyone.
An Tochailt is approached from Dalwhinnie by a private drive along the lochside. The Lodge was built recently to a very high specification, combining the extravagance of the 19th century with the comforts of the 21st.

The Lodge combines the remoteness of the Scottish Highlands on the edge of the Cairngorms National park, with easy access to the rest of Scotland. The lodge is three miles from the A9, and only an hour’s easy drive to Perth, Inverness, Fort William or Grantown-on-Spey. Dalwhinnie is connected by a daily direct rail service from London Euston, the ScotRail Sleeper. For those wishing to do so, we can arrange sporting activities. There is an abundance of other activities available in the area and these can be seen on the ‘activities’ page of this website. Sporting activities by arrangement with the main office.

Cook and daily housekeeper can be arranged at an additional charge.

Customer testimonials

“An Tochailt has become our home from home. It is a beautiful house — a mini castle paradise!

Both in winter, when its warmth, coziness and roaring log fires offer shelter from the snow and gales, or in summer, when the endless days allow for glorious and breathtaking views down Loch Ericht, it is a simply magical spot. The furnishings are comfortable, the towels and linens excellent quality, the unlimited hot water and huge bathtubs much needed after a day’s fishing or walking. The dining room is magnificent and a perfect place to enjoy eating our daily catch or Christmas feast! (The kitchen is disproportionately small for the size of the house, but it suits the 3 of us perfectly, although it might be snug for larger groups.). With a drying room/boot room and lovely scullery, the house is very well equipped for those who enjoy outdoor living. And there are books, games, dvds and the all-important Wi-fi for those who prefer to stay at home.  The house is a haven of tranquility and seclusion, yet the excellent, friendly and efficient team on the Ben Alder Estate are just a phone call away. We always hate to leave and we look forward to each return visit.”
